“Our hearts ache for those affected by the violence of yesterday’s Forth of July parade shooting in nearby Highland Park, Illinois. The joyous occasion was turned into a battlefield, hitting close to home for our Chicagoland community and touching the lives of our teammates and their families. The shooter deliberately took the lives of at least seven innocent attendees, robbed our children of their innocence, and forever changed the lives of the community.
Tragedy after tragedy, live after live: how many more shootings before we take action to remove assault weapons from the hands of our youth? We must call for stronger gun control and have the courage to stand up to the gun industry to prevent these mass tragedies from continuing to devastated families.
