PACIFIC CYCLE RECALLS 1,700 E-BIKES DUE TO FIRE HAZARD

02/07/2024 | Recalls and Warnings

On January 25th, 2024, Pacific Cycle recalled 1,700 e-bikes after several reports of the lithium-ion battery starting on fire while charging. Posing as a risk for fire hazard that can result in severe burn injuries, death, and/or property damage.

About the Recall:

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Pacific Cycle recalled two different model types of e-bikes after reports of the battery catching on fire. Which resulting in one injury of second-degree burns. The wiring harness that manages the charging of the lithium-ion battery was not properly assembled, creating a risk of overheating and fire while charging.

Affected Units and Date Range

The recalled e-bikes involved are Ascend Cabrillo (model numbers R7583BPS and R7585BPS) and Ascend Minaret (model number R7586BPS). The Ascend Cabrillo was sold in a sand or gray color and has a rear storage rack. The Minaret was sold in black with red and gray accents or a step-through frame style

They were sold nationwide at Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s stores and online from January 2023 through November 2023, costing between $1,400 to $1,500.

Pacific Cycle is asking consumers to immediately stop using and unplug the recalled e-bike. After confirming that the e-bike is part of the recall, it should be returned to the store where it was purchased.
