Which Tabletop Fire Pits Have Been Recalled?

Approximately 89,500 Colson-branded fire pits manufactured by Colsen Fire Pits LLC, of Miami, Florida have been recalled because they can quickly and unexpectedly cause serious burns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall number for this product is 25-015.

These tabletop fire pits are gray or black and may be round, rectangular, square, hexagonal, or skull-shaped. All of these units were sold with a flame extinguisher bearing the “Colsen” brand. They were manufactured in various sizes from five to eighteen inches wide.

FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplaces have also been recalled. The CPSC warns that these fireplaces can cause uncontrollable pool fires and flame jetting that may result in serious or fatal burns. The recall number for this product is 25-073. These tabletop fire pits were manufactured in various sizes, colors, and shapes.

Other recalled fire pits are the Arroyo and Hideaway Wood Burning Fire Pits sold at Crate and Barrel. The recall number for this product is 21-763. The Arroyo fire pit is a black chimenea-style fireplace that is approximately five feet tall and one and a half feet wide. It has a UPC number of 752370060107. The Hideaway fireplace is described as being black, round, and measuring approximately one and half feet high and three feet wide, with a UPC number of 752370064501.

In addition to these recalled products, the CPSC has issued a Consumer Alert on December 19, 2024 for alcohol or other liquid-burning fire pits that violate voluntary standards and present flame jetting and fire hazards. The agency urged sellers to stop selling and consumers to immediately stop using and dispose of fire pits that require pouring isopropyl alcohol or other liquid fuel into an open container or bowl and then lighting the pooled liquid. ThisCPSC product safety warning number is 25-074.

Where Were The Recalled Tabletop Fire Pits Sold?

The Colsen tabletop fire pits consist of a concrete open reservoir that holds burning liquid alcohol.

The Colsen-branded tabletop fire pits were sold by the following companies between January 2020 to July 2024 for between $40 and $90:

Amazon
Wayfair
Walmart
Sharper Image
FlipShop
Grommet
Meta
Tick Tok
https://colsenfirepits.com

The FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplaces were sold online from the following retailers between 2018 and 2024 and ranged in price from $35 to $105:

Amazon.com
BespokePost.com
Faire.com
Shopify.com
Hirchpromo.com
Wix.com
Huckberry.com
TourchofModern.com
Macys.com
Nordstroms.com
CB2.com
NeimanMarcus.com

The Arroyo and Hideaway Wood Burning Fire Pits were sold only at Crate and Barrel between December 2020 and May 2021 for approximately $700.

As reported by the CPSC, other hazardous alcohol or other liquid-burning fire pits have been sold by numerous retailers and online sites.

Why Were Tabletop Fire Pits Recalled?

FLIKRFIRE tabletop fireplaces have contributed to at least two deaths and several incidents of third or fourth degree burns to extensive areas of victims’ bodies. The injuries were caused by flame jetting and uncontrollable pool fires which can produce hotter and larger flames that spread beyond the unit.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received at least 31 reports of flames escaping from the Colsen Tabletop fire pit container, which has resulted in 19 burn injuries. Two of those injuries resulted in the victims suffering third degree burns over more than 40% of their bodies. Six victims required surgery, treatment at burn facilities, loss of physical function, short-term disability, or permanent disfigurement.

The Arroyo and Hideaway Wood Burning Fire Pits were recalled as a fire hazard because the wood stored under the unit could ignite.

The CPSC warns that all alcohol or other liquid burning fire pits could be hazardous and that sellers should stop selling them and consumers should immediately stop using and dispose of them.
