Pressure Washers Recalled
The United States Consumer Product Safety Recall Commission’s notice (number 25-452) states that the pressure washers subject to the recall are models RY142300 and RY142711VNM. They are described as being green, featuring a spray nozzle, a detergent tank with a blue cap, and a storage compartment with “Ryobi” printed on the front of the unit.
The RY142300 Electric 2300 PSI Pressure Washers that are being recalled have the following serial number ranges:
- EU17121D010001 through EU20256N180999
- LT20211D140001 through LT21166D090999
- RG22154D090001 through RG23182N140999
The RY142711VNM Electric 2700 PSI pressure washers being recalled have the following serial number ranges:
- LT21411D090001 through LT21425D090999
- RG21411D010001 through RG23182N140999
The recalled power washers were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores throughout the United States and at homedepot.com and directotoolsoutlet.com from July 2017 through June 2024. These units were priced at approximately $300 to $400.
Reason For the Recall
The Ryobi pressure washers were recalled because they pose a projectile hazard that could result in serious injury to both product users and bystanders.
According to the recall notice, to date, there have been 135 reports of capacitors overheating, resulting in 41 explosions that have caused 32 injuries to the face, eyes, hands, and fingers when parts were forcefully ejected.
