Meyers and Flowers recently filed a lawsuit on behalf of Evan Cortez, a 23-year-old Northern Illinois University student who was severely injured by a drunk driver while he was a passenger in a car traveling on Route 38 in DeKalb, Illinois on January 17, 2017. The lawsuit against the negligent driver seeks compensation for Mr. Cortez’s medical bills, pain and suffering and loss of normal life.
The crash occurred when the intoxicated driver crossed the centerline of Route 38 and slammed head-on into the vehicle driven by Johnathon R. Ode. Mr. Cortez was a passenger in Mr. Ode’s car and suffered multiple, severe injuries.
The defendant was arrested and charged with multiple criminal offenses including reckless homicide, two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of causing great bodily harm.
